One of the new products Julep released in the February Maven Boxes are Eye Sheens. These products may look like a cream or gel based product but what it actually is, is more of a liquid mess! So my warning to those of you who purchased these and are waiting for your Julep Maven box is to put these in the ‘fridge to FIRM UP before you open the jar! Due to shipping it’s possible that the liquid shadow will be at the top of the jar instead of settled as in the picture below. Do not open these at room temperature otherwise you might have a mess on your hands like I did!
I wish I read their blog post about the product description but I didn’t and based on their website name – EYE SHEEN – I didn’t expect that this item, in a pot, would be a liquidy mess! From their blog:
Playing around with our new Eye Sheen Liquid Eyeshadows reminded me of painting with watercolors when I was a kid. But whereas layering a bunch of watercolors would inevitably result in a dingy, greyish mess (or at least it always did for me), every combination of Eye Sheens resulted in a super-chic new eye look. Basically, it’s impossible not to feel like an artistic genius when you’re working with them, because every configuration looks like a masterpiece.
From their website:
Do those look like a liquid to you? Those don’t look like a liquid to me! The thing is if you look at their photos it look like a solid cream product but in reality it’s very much like a thin cake batter. Very liquidy and very messy.
Let’s compare.
The Eye Sheens, as these are called on Julep’s site, do not appear to be a liquid at all. The only hint that these are more of a liquid than a cream is in the description.
This gorgeous liquid eyeshadow glides on easily and sets to a satin finish that stays put all day. The buildable, blendable formula is enriched with our proprietary Power Cell ComplexTM.
Had I known these were going to be a mess when opening the jars I’d have put these in the ‘fridge to firm up. The temp inside my house is at 72°F so it’s not hot in here by any means and had been out in my mailbox until 3:30 PM. It’s a shame because the colors are really pretty but wow, these are messy, messy, messy! So beware that you need to keep these stored upright and in a cool place and before opening tap the jar so the contents settle to the bottom, most importantly put these in the ‘fridge to firm up before use!
Honestly, between the size of these jars (the exterior is a little larger than a quarter, interior a little smaller) and how messy these are, I think these would be better suited in a similar shaped bottle like the polishes and have a built in wand or brush applicator. These little pots/jars are a big icky mess! Yuk!
